The girder system allows a large vacuum detector to be longitudinally moved 1.5m without breaking vacuum. This is achieved through an edge welded bellow, that can exert a vacuum force of up to 20kN. It is attached to the detector vessel which in turn is mounted onto a 5-way motion box. With some manual intervention, the detector can move 6m in the longitudinal direction.
